Benefits of Flooring Underlayment

Flooring underlayments provide many benefits to your floor such as sound absorption, moisture protection, insulation, compression resistance and more. Below are benefits you should look for in an underlayment and how they help your floor last a lifetime.

Water Protection

Our patented, recycled, fiber structure aggressively attacks sub-floor moisture by wicking and dispersing it throughout the pad to draw it up and away. This action is called DriWick Technology which promotes moisture dissipation, allowing it to evaporate and escape.

When installed properly, our patented, recycled, fibers manage water vapor that surfaces from concrete subfloors, while the attached vapor barrier protects the overlying floor from moisture. This allows the concrete to safely “breathe” below without damage to the flooring above.

All fibers are treated with a safe antimicrobial to inhibit mold and mildew.

Sound Proofing

Give us your energetic kids, playful pets, busy schedules, music and television.  Incredible sound management helps you live peacefully with others without worry! Our dense, patented fiber construction absorbs and controls both impact and ambient sound to create a comfortable living space for everyone!

The secret? Our recycled fibers are randomly air-laid creating a capillary affect to cushion the floor, absorb sound, and help make laminate floors sound more like real wood.

It also works to stop the transfer of noise to other rooms!

Perfect for:

  • Single family homes
  • Multi-story construction homes
  • Apartments
  • Triplexes
  • Condominiums
  • College dormitories
  • Military housing
  • Classrooms
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Any new area where reduction of impact noise is desired
Sound Proofing

Impact Sound Transmission

Impact Sound Transmission. This method is designed to measure the impact sound transmission performance of a floor-ceiling assembly in a controlled laboratory environment.

Sound Transmission Rating/Loss

This measures the sound-insulating property of a partition and is expressed in terms of sound transmission loss.

Delta IIC Rating

Delta IIC is an impact sound test that directly evaluates acoustic performance properties of underlayments based on the difference of acoustical performance with the entire flooring assembled on top of the subfloor and of the sub-floor only.

Compression Resistance

When flooring pieces interlock, the joint between planks are subject to downward force under heavy foot traffic, furniture, appliances etc. If an underlayment is too soft or crushes under pressure, flooring joints may come apart or be damaged under the strain.

The dense, recycled fiber structure of our underlayments work to support the click-together mechanism and keep them in place allowing you to have showroom quality floors you can live on.

If an underlayment is too soft or can be dented or compressed too easily, the flooring joints may come apart beneath heavyweight.

We rigorously test our underlayments in various lab settings to understand how much force it takes to compress the underlayment to 1/2 of its thickness. This force is measured in PSI (Pounds per sq inch).

The higher the psi, the more resistance your underlayment has to crushing under pressure and, as a result, the better support your floor will have. It’s easy! Higher number = long lasting beautiful floors + better investment!

Insulating Value

Insulating Value

Recycled fibers deliver the perfect balance of comfort and insulation, achieving thermal insulation. Providing a layer of insulation for considerable comfort for any flooring.

Smoothing Out Imperfections

Smoothing Out Imperfections

Firm and supportive but flexible enough to form around subfloor surface roughness to help cut down on extra subfloor surface prepping time.

Approved for In-Floor Heating Systems

Bellawood Platinum, Coreluxe and QuietWalk are all approved for use with in-floor radiant heat systems! These underlayments provide a thermal break and insulation to the floor. This helps to deflect the heat upwards and allow heat to permeate evenly throughout the finished floor.

An ideal partner is QuietWarmth radiant floor heat film. This system provides gentle heat to floors in kitchens, bathrooms, family rooms, and bedrooms etc. Thinner than a credit card, QuietWarmth will not raise the floor height so there is no need for self-levelers or other messy mortars. It is the only floor heating system that can be cut to length with a simple pair of household scissors.
